RUTLEDGE 69制片厂制作传媒 The mojo the Grainger Grizzlies found in Alabama last week carried over into their game against Union County on Friday.
After winning games against two quality opponents in a tournament just south of Chattanooga after Christmas, the Grizzlies returned home to face a long-time non-conference foe and used an 11-0 third-period run to down the Patriots, 68-59.
Offense was an issue in some of the setbacks earlier in the season but that hasn69制片厂制作传媒檛 been the case over the past three games. Head coach Adam Wolfenbarger said he and his staff tweaked some things offensively and it69制片厂制作传媒檚 paying off. 69制片厂制作传媒淲e are running a more balanced attack offensively and I think we have found our rhythm, we are running better stuff. This game was about us bowing our necks up and getting some stops defensively because Union County shot lights out in the first half, I don69制片厂制作传媒檛 think they could have shot it any better. Konner Kinkaid shot well to keep us in the game and overall, we shot it well in first half too, they just shot it better than we did.69制片厂制作传媒
After the Patriots built a 10-point lead at 28-18 in the second period, Kinkaid got his team to within a basket at the break as he hit three three-pointers in a row. It appeared the Patriots were ready to pull away in the third until the Grizzlies found a different notch and reeled off 11 points in a row which included Carter Williams69制片厂制作传媒 three at the buzzer that gave Grainger a 52-48 lead. In the fourth, Kade Williams connected on a shot from beyond the NBA three-point line and then the defense did the rest, holding Union County to two points in the final 2:55 of the game. Wolfenbarger said one of the biggest keys to the victory was shutting down Ty Edds, one of the Patriots69制片厂制作传媒 best shooters.
69制片厂制作传媒淲e switched some things up defensively and I thought Ivan Stratton did a good job on one of their kids who was really hot from the floor. We went to more of a face guard and Brizen did a good job on Edds in the second half as we challenged him to step up and try to slow Edds down. Defensively, we got stops but we also got strong rebounds with two hands. Union County is a hands team and for us to be good with the basketball during that third period run was crucial. Carter made a huge three at the end of the quarter to throw that three in.69制片厂制作传媒
Once again, success came for the Grizzlies due to a balanced effort on offense. Four different Grainger players ended the game in double figures as Carter Williams scored 20 points, Kinkaid had 17, Coy Morgan 12 and Kade Williams added 11 points. Edds scored 26 points for Union County and Kaden Carroll added 22 as the duo scored almost all of the Patriots69制片厂制作传媒 points.
After hosting Northview Academy and South Greene in non-district matchups, the Grizzlies will open their league schedule next Friday in Church Hill against Volunteer. 69制片厂制作传媒淚t69制片厂制作传媒檚 hard to believe it69制片厂制作传媒檚 already the first of the new year but after some bumps and bruises, I feel like we have things headed in the right direction,69制片厂制作传媒 Wolfenbarger said.69制片厂制作传媒 We have kids who have played all year long but we are trying some new things with different rotations that is really working for us. I told our guys this is a challenge as we need to keep looking for ways to improve.69制片厂制作传媒
