Two are hospitalized and an investigation is underway after a traffic collision at the intersection of Central Church Road and W. Andrew Johnson Highway on Sunday evening.
According to an incident report released by the Morristown Police Department, a small white SUV on W. AJ was speeding past traffic, including MPD Lt. Brad Rice, in the turning lanes of the highway not far from the intersection with West Morris Boulevard.
The subject accelerated beyond Rice69制片厂制作传媒檚 ability to safely catch up and pulled away after the MPD says the pursuit was terminated.
The SUV continued westbound at a high rate of speed and collided with the back of a car in the turning lane at the Central Church Road intersection. That vehicle was initially pushed into some eastbound traffic and a total of 5 vehicles were involved in the collision.
Charges are pending based on a toxicology report but offences being investigated include reckless driving, improper lane use, failure of driver to exercise due care, assault via motor vehicle and driving under the influence.
While the MPD officer did begin his pursuit as a matter of traffic enforcement, he was not in pursuit of the vehicle by the time it collided further down the highway.
