The runners for the 2024 Glow the Distance for MATS 5K race started out at sunset on Saturday and crossed the finish line in the dark with glow sticks and colorful lights basking the runners in a neon embrace.

Many runners had glowing accessories that made for a festive atmosphere.
Payton Summers, a 15-year-old male, won the race with an impressive 20:41finish time that averaged out to 6:39 minutes per mile.
Summers is a student at Morristown where he runs for the cross country team.
Jeffery Dykes finished second overall and Walter Kledzik finished third.
Phoebe Durham was the overall female winner with a time of 25:02.
Pierce said they got a lot of positive feedback from racers about a new route that was utilized.
The race began and ended in the main Morristown Utilities parking lot and otherwise kept participants on Main Street where they were still able to enjoy running through Morristown69制片厂制作传媒檚 unique downtown. Pierce said they were grateful to the utility company.
69制片厂制作传媒淲e will continue to use this route as long as MUS will allow us to use their parking lot.69制片厂制作传媒
In addition to Morristown Utilities, Commercial Bank, Wright Property Marketing Group, Knoxville TVA and Citizens National Bank all sponsored the race.
MATS, or Ministerial Association Temporary Shelter, is a transitional homeless shelter and an agency of the United Way.
Pierce said staff are excited for future events.
