An incident involving a Tazewell Police officer resulted in him suffering non-life-threatening injuries and is serving as a reminder of the Tennessee 69制片厂制作传媒淢ove Over69制片厂制作传媒 Law.
According to a press release from the Tazewell Police Department, around 9:21 a.m., officers were called to a broken-down semi tractor-trailer that was blocking traffic lanes on U.S. Highway 25E near Purkey Street within the Tazewell city limits.
TPD and Tennessee Highway Patrol were on the scene and attempting to block lanes of traffic when a driver failed to yield and struck Officer Harrison Cornett69制片厂制作传媒檚 cruiser from behind.
The car continued across the other lanes before crashing onto an embankment.
Cornett had his emergency lights activated and had been sitting in the lane for approximately 20 minutes, the release said. Cornett was treated by Claiborne County EMS at the scene and was also treated at Covenant Health Claiborne Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is being handled by the THP. Other assisting agencies were the Tazewell/New Tazewell Fire Department and Claiborne County Sheriff69制片厂制作传媒檚 Office.
The Tennessee 69制片厂制作传媒淢ove Over69制片厂制作传媒 Law requires drivers to move over or slow down for emergency vehicles, utility vehicles and other vehicles with flashing lights or sirens.
The law was passed in 2006 and is designed to protect first responders, utility workers, and highway maintenance workers. Penalties include fines of up to $500 and up to 30 days in jail.
