Remove the shade of the familiar and see the part of the world in which we live with fresh eyes.

The view from the Stancil Ford Overlook in Panther Creek State Park alone is a wonder of the world. Panther Creek and Cherokee Park are built of natural beauty. The city parks 69制片厂制作传媒� especially the new Jolly Park 69制片厂制作传媒� are quite wonderful.

We69制片厂制作传媒檙e the disc golf capital of the Universe.

We have shopping and restaurants and more.

We are the hub of the region.

That69制片厂制作传媒檚 why people come here.

Here is, frankly, awesome.

But the best part of being here or - if you remove the tourism angle 69制片厂制作传媒� being from here?

Location. Location. Location.

We69制片厂制作传媒檙e close to everything.

People spend thousands of dollars and a huge percentage of their small allotment of vacation days to visit what we can drive to in an afternoon.

And I69制片厂制作传媒檓 not just talking about Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.

With the interstates and our location we69制片厂制作传媒檙e within a few hours69制片厂制作传媒� drive of so much to do, so much to see.

And that69制片厂制作传媒檚 what this series in VIBRANT is about. The things we can do 69制片厂制作传媒� maybe the thing we take for granted 69制片厂制作传媒� from our home bases here in Hamblen County and the Lakeway Area.

The Apples don69制片厂制作传媒檛 fall far in Hendersonville

We got up early one recent morning to reengage with a family tradition 69制片厂制作传媒� our annual fall trip to Hendersonville, N.C. to go apple picking.

I grew up around the apple orchards of rural Southern Indiana. To me, the sweet smell of fallen apples is a worm hole transporting me back to afternoon bike rides, shooing the Yellow Jackets away from the fruit on the ground to find one or two good ones to sustain me on my journey.

I never picked them from the tree 69制片厂制作传媒� as a kid 69制片厂制作传媒� those belonged to somebody. But once they were on the ground? It was between me and the yellow jackets.

And so, when our oldest was little, we decided to engage in supporting agribusiness. We wanted to try apple picking and an internet search told us Hendersonville 69制片厂制作传媒� about an hour and 45-minute trip over the mountains 69制片厂制作传媒� was our best bet.

We fell in love. Not just with the apple picking 69制片厂制作传媒� which I is a bit like nature69制片厂制作传媒檚 arboreal Easter Egg hunt 69制片厂制作传媒� but with the entirety of the process.

Orchards like Grandad69制片厂制作传媒檚 Apples N Such and Stepp69制片厂制作传媒檚 provide then fresh fruit straight from the trees. There69制片厂制作传媒檚 baked good and ciders and other apple-related treats like fresh apple butter.

From the pumpkin patches to the corn maze, it69制片厂制作传媒檚 a whole vibe, a celebration of the fall harvest 69制片厂制作传媒� something that69制片厂制作传媒檚 also heavily coded to my Indiana youth.

And 69制片厂制作传媒� maybe the best part 69制片厂制作传媒� is because there are multiple competing orchards there is something of an autumnal arms race. Some orchards have added summer berries to extend their business season while other extend their available crops to other fall classics like pumpkins and cabbages.

Grandad69制片厂制作传媒檚 has a cow train 69制片厂制作传媒� a lawn-mower pulled affair 69制片厂制作传媒� with little bovine decorated carts to haul the kids around the orchard. Several of the spots have added an apple cannon, an impressive CO2 powered contraption that launches the unsellable apples across a target range with significant power.

The best part? It69制片厂制作传媒檚 a malleable experience. You can make it what you want it to be.

On a pleasant day with the sun high and the mountain sky is a rich shade of blue, you can sit in one of the many rockers overlooking the orchard and soak in the beauty of the high mountains in the distance.

You can take your time in the corn maze or explore the orchard at your leisure.

Or 69制片厂制作传媒� it can be part of a larger day.

We got into the Orchard about 10 or so and spent a couple of hours doing orchard stuff. Then it was off to downtown Hendersonville which is full of interesting shops and restaurants, a vibrant, thriving part of the world. We grabbed a late lunch in nearby Flat Rock at a hole-in-the-wall hot dog shop that happens to serve some of the best lobster rolls in North Carolina.

How did we find out that a place called The Great American Hot Dog serves fantastic lobster rolls? Don69制片厂制作传媒檛 remember. But they69制片厂制作传媒檙e amazing.

After our late lunch we were back in the car and home by 4 p.m. 69制片厂制作传媒� plenty of time to make it Knoxville for the Vols69制片厂制作传媒� game that evening.

And that69制片厂制作传媒檚 thing about this area. People come here because it69制片厂制作传媒檚 beautiful and there are lot of things to do but also 69制片厂制作传媒� we69制片厂制作传媒檙e right in the middle of so many things. So much to do, so much to see and so much to experience 69制片厂制作传媒� all in a day69制片厂制作传媒檚 trip.
