It was the 1920s, America was in a Post-War euphoria and the decade was ready to roar.
Vaudville lingered while entertainers trained on its travelling stages branched out into music, theatre and, yes, moving pictures.
It was that world into which the Jackson Theatre in Jonesborough was born.
For roughly 40 years the theatre served a cultural hub for Jonesborough - located Southwest of Johnson City.
Over the decadres, the theatre hosted theatrical shows, music concerts and screed classic - and not so classic - movies.
But by the 1960s, the landscape had changed.
The theatre closed its doors.
Over the years, the building held a furniture store, a women69制片厂制作传媒檚 clothing store and served as a dance studio.
Mostly it69制片厂制作传媒檚 former status as one of Jonesborough69制片厂制作传媒檚 jewels was chiefly forgotten.
Then, in 2015, city leaders purchased the vacant building and began the process of restoring it to its former glory.
In November, the city celebrated the grand return. The Jackson Theatre was back and reopened for business.
Serving as a venue for the arts, the Jackson will host music concerts, theater productions and as a film house, this time with cutting-edge technologies but a nod to the past befitting Tennessee69制片厂制作传媒檚 oldest town.
According to the Theater69制片厂制作传媒檚 website, the restoration was more than preserving a building. Reviving the Jackson is part of an effort to rekindled a cultural flame that once burned brightly in the community.
The project garnered support from local artists, historians, and residents who were eager to see the theater come back to life.
In addition to restoration, modernizing efforts included a modern stage and providing the audience with modern and comfortable seating. The resoration included installing state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems, and creating spaces for art exhibitions and community gatherings.
In addition to its entertainment fare, Jackson Theatre will also offer educational programs, workshops, and tours to engage the younger generation and instill an appreciation for the arts and history.
