Larry69制片厂制作传媒檚 life was cut short in an automobile collision that also badly injured another brother of David69制片厂制作传媒檚. The experience left a profound impact on David who would end up devoting his professional career, in large part, in service to help others in emergency situations.

69制片厂制作传媒淚t69制片厂制作传媒檚 been on our minds for several years to do something to honor him, and I had always kind of thought that we would do something for the emergency room because I had spent so much time there, working there in college and otherwise over the years. One of the things I like about the emergency room is I69制片厂制作传媒檝e always looked at it as the great equalizer. It didn69制片厂制作传媒檛 matter what your financial status was, what your status was in the community 69制片厂制作传媒� if you had an emergency, you came through the same set of double doors, and that always impressed me. That always made me feel like that that was such an important place.69制片厂制作传媒�

Kay Senter69制片厂制作传媒檚 family legacy in the local healthcare scene begins with her father Dr. John Kinser, a well-loved, pioneering physician in the area that helped found Morristown-Hamblen Hospital.

Dr. Kinser was always pushing for and building progress at the hospital that would evolve into the healthcare system that stands today and Betty was busy over the years as a nurse and mother, but Kay said their service to others in all walks of life was a constant.

The professional endeavors were just an extension of values that were taught in the Kinser home, values Kay would come to share with her husband Jim.

69制片厂制作传媒淲e grew up that way,69制片厂制作传媒� Kay reflected. 69制片厂制作传媒淲e did projects with scouts. We were involved 69制片厂制作传媒� mother and daddy sponsored a lot of things in the school system. When we were in school and someone needed something, it wasn69制片厂制作传媒檛 a big production; if they saw a need, they helped.69制片厂制作传媒�

69制片厂制作传媒淛im grew up the same way,69制片厂制作传媒� she continued. 69制片厂制作传媒淛im and I both, because of the influence he had from his family and I had from my family, we were always involved.69制片厂制作传媒�

That influence saw Jim Senter spending time investing in others69制片厂制作传媒� lives, as well and in addition to a successful healthcare career.

69制片厂制作传媒淗e was a little league football coach for the Hillcrest Rams and the Meadowview Vikings, a Boy Scout leader, very involved in church in all aspects, a volunteer at the Crockett Tavern Museum69制片厂制作传媒� (he had a foundation that included) a volunteer spirit, involvement, caring and compassion,69制片厂制作传媒� Kay said.

The Purkeys and Senters hope their giving will encourage others to give when they see needs.

69制片厂制作传媒淚 think it69制片厂制作传媒檚 important to have a good legacy and to try to make a difference in the world and particularly in your community,69制片厂制作传媒� David said. 69制片厂制作传媒淚69制片厂制作传媒檝e always tried to do that 69制片厂制作传媒� I ended up with almost 40 years in local and state government. I hope my legacy will be that I wanted to serve and that I got in the arena, that I did not remain in the observation stands. I decided to get in the arena and try to make a difference and serve the people of my community and state.

69制片厂制作传媒淪o I think legacy is important. I don69制片厂制作传媒檛 think it69制片厂制作传媒檚 something that you think about while you69制片厂制作传媒檙e working, but we should strive to leave a good legacy. And that69制片厂制作传媒檚 what I hope to have done in this county and in this state when I69制片厂制作传媒檓 gone. I69制片厂制作传媒檓 65 years old and I realize that I69制片厂制作传媒檓 in the last quarter of my life. I look back on it and I tried to work hard and tried to make a difference. I tried to leave my mark.

69制片厂制作传媒淪o I would encourage others to try to leave your mark in life. Don69制片厂制作传媒檛 just go through life. Try to go through life leaving your mark.69制片厂制作传媒�

Kay agreed that giving is a way to continue legacies and improve the lives of others.

69制片厂制作传媒淚 think there are various aspects of giving, and when you give of yourself, you are, many times, receiving as much as you69制片厂制作传媒檙e giving,69制片厂制作传媒� she said. 69制片厂制作传媒淲hat69制片厂制作传媒檚 that adage? People won69制片厂制作传媒檛 remember what you did or what you said, but they69制片厂制作传媒檒l remember how you made them feel. And that you care for them and you value them.69制片厂制作传媒�

69制片厂制作传媒淕iving means caring and valuing other individuals for who they are,69制片厂制作传媒� Kay reflected. 69制片厂制作传媒�(It69制片厂制作传媒檚 like teaching) in the classroom, you69制片厂制作传媒檙e planting seeds of encouragement and you never know what69制片厂制作传媒檚 going to grow from it.69制片厂制作传媒�

Resources come in different shapes and sizes, and everyone can give something that will make a difference.

It69制片厂制作传媒檚 a lesson Kay wants to pass down to her grandchildren, Grant and Julianna.

69制片厂制作传媒淵ou give from your heart and you give to help other individuals,69制片厂制作传媒� she said. 69制片厂制作传媒淵ou can give in so many different ways.69制片厂制作传媒�

At the ceremony honoring their contributions, Covenant Health officials announced the creation of the Larry Richard Purkey Emergency Services Excellence Endowment at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System, and the Dr. John and Betty Kinser Exam Room and the James D. 69制片厂制作传媒淛im69制片厂制作传媒� Senter Exam Room, both at Morristown-Hamblen West.

69制片厂制作传媒淧hilanthropic support plays a critical role in the services that we can provide,69制片厂制作传媒� MHHS President Gordon Lintz said. 69制片厂制作传媒淎nd we69制片厂制作传媒檙e just so grateful for your generosity and the impact that it will have on the services provided here at Morristown-Hamblen and to the citizens of Hamblen County.69制片厂制作传媒�

69制片厂制作传媒淢ajor gifts such as these that we69制片厂制作传媒檙e celebrating here today allow the hospital to plan for the future, creating a lasting legacy that continues to support our mission for generations to come,69制片厂制作传媒� Covenant Chief Philanthropy Officer Chip Bryant said.

Lintz spoke to the gathered local philanthropists, surrounded by key healthcare staff that had gathered to express appreciation.

69制片厂制作传媒淔irst of all, David and Pam, we want to thank you for your generosity to our foundation as well as to our hospital,69制片厂制作传媒� he said. 69制片厂制作传媒淭he establishment of this fund is very, very important to us. A lot of times, as healthcare continues to change, one of the things that tends to take a back seat to some other things can be education. And through your generosity, we now have a fund that will benefit the individuals in our emergency department to make sure that we continue to provide the absolute very best in emergency care to our communities and the surrounding communities that we serve.69制片厂制作传媒�

Lintz then turned to Morristown City Council Member Kay Senter and son Jimmy Senter.

69制片厂制作传媒淢s. Kay, we appreciate you,69制片厂制作传媒� Lintz said. 69制片厂制作传媒淲e appreciate all that you do for our community. You have a family that has a legacy of serving our community from a medical perspective, as well as from being a supporter from your roles in serving the community through city government, as an educator and through your many, many volunteer efforts. And we are grateful for these two (exam) rooms that are now being named after your family.

69制片厂制作传媒淭he dollars that are generated through your generosity will go to future efforts relative to the next steps for what we will do on this campus to serve our community in the future relative to providing the very best in healthcare to Hamblen County and to the surrounding counties. So, to you, and to Jimmy, we are very grateful for your generosity, as well.69制片厂制作传媒�

David is a retired Commissioner of the Dept. of Safety and 69制片厂制作传媒land Security who has many, many connections to MHHS.

He69制片厂制作传媒檚 had a picture of Larry near him near every desk he69制片厂制作传媒檚 worked at, and, as the youngest and only remaining sibling of the six, David said this was the right time to honor his brother in a way that would continue to impact lives.

69制片厂制作传媒淭he opportunity was there through the (hospital) foundation and Haley Fugate, who kind of heads giving for Morristown-Hamblen here, is a wonderful ambassador for the hospital,69制片厂制作传媒� David recalled. 69制片厂制作传媒淪he actually reached out to me and because we had been thinking about doing that, the timing was right. The endowment will go towards training and education for emergency department staff that they would normally not get to attend.69制片厂制作传媒�

Nursing Manager Sonya Johnson confirmed the endowment is going to help a lot.

69制片厂制作传媒淭hat generosity that69制片厂制作传媒檚 going to help the ER nurses so much with education and providing opportunities that we wouldn69制片厂制作传媒檛 have otherwise,69制片厂制作传媒� she said.

Senter described her father as 69制片厂制作传媒渃ompassionate, caring, and competent69制片厂制作传媒� 69制片厂制作传媒� qualities she believes MHHS shares, including the Morristown-West location. Dr. Kinser started his medical career as an intern, then resident, at St. Mary69制片厂制作传媒檚 in Knoxville where he established the emergency room, the second in the area.

After the move to Morristown where he helped found Morristown-Hamblen Hospital, Dr. Kinser maintained a focus on supporting emergency care.

69制片厂制作传媒淒addy was very compassionate,69制片厂制作传媒� she said. 69制片厂制作传媒淗is doors were open to everyone. He didn69制片厂制作传媒檛 care what your means were, he made no distinction on that. He loved doctoring the older generation. He was really, really good. In fact, during his time, he probably could have doctored three or four generations in your family 69制片厂制作传媒� he was one of those that would go to the house if you needed it.

69制片厂制作传媒淗e had a sense of humor that was phenomenal,69制片厂制作传媒� she said. 69制片厂制作传媒淗e talked patients through a lot of things and consoled them. And I think when you believe in your doctors, when you believe in the medical care you69制片厂制作传媒檙e getting, that69制片厂制作传媒檚 part of your prescription to health right there.69制片厂制作传媒�

She sees the same kind of care at Morristown-Hamblen.

69制片厂制作传媒淎nd I believe in the doctors here.69制片厂制作传媒�

Kay spoke at the ceremony about Jim69制片厂制作传媒檚 legacy. Many of the doctors he recruited are still practicing and making a huge difference.

69制片厂制作传媒淢any are still here,69制片厂制作传媒� she said. 69制片厂制作传媒淒r. Siva Moran, Dr. Sunil Ramaprasad, Dr. Ernesto Mejia, Dr. Tom Thompson, Dr. Bill Martin has passed away, and Dr. Peter Sutherland... I69制片厂制作传媒檓 sure I69制片厂制作传媒檓 leaving somebody out. But I think it really does my heart good that (Jim) was a part of that.69制片厂制作传媒�

Kay and Jim69制片厂制作传媒檚 son Jimmy was proud to be at the event honoring his family.

69制片厂制作传媒淚t69制片厂制作传媒檚 something valuable that family can help give back to the community,69制片厂制作传媒� he said. 69制片厂制作传媒淎nd also to be able to showcase the legacy of my grandfather and my dad, who had a heavy presence in health care as well. They cared a lot for the community.69制片厂制作传媒�

Bryant said the legacies of the families will be around a long time.

69制片厂制作传媒淭he endowment will be permanent and as long as the facility is here, those rooms are going to have those names,69制片厂制作传媒� he said.
