Jim Price is leaving his role as Chairperson of the Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
It was Price69制片厂制作传媒檚 second term in the role, with the first being in 2020 where he helped guide the Chamber and its members through the pandemic.
69制片厂制作传媒淚f I think about the first year, you know, it was really a matter of protecting the Chamber,69制片厂制作传媒 he said. 69制片厂制作传媒淲e had to do a lot of work back then on, you know, making sure our expenditures matched our income and we had to, you know, do some things to make sure that we took care of our employees and made sure they stayed healthy and protected during the pandemic.69制片厂制作传媒
Price said 2024 was a much more traditional experience for the Chamber and a good one due to strong economic conditions and growth.
In contrast with his experience the first go around, Price said he enjoyed the face to face meetings that included membership breakfasts, after hour networking events, ribbon cuttings and more.
69制片厂制作传媒淚t was nice to be able to meet people, see people and hear about the passion for their businesses that they were starting or updating,69制片厂制作传媒 he said. 69制片厂制作传媒淚t was good to be out in the community and seeing the community support each other.69制片厂制作传媒
People made all the difference for Price this past year, whether it was observing the impact of engaging businesses or working with the Chamber staff who he said are always working hard to further the goals of the MACC members.
It was meaningful, he said, to see small business owners follow their passions.
69制片厂制作传媒淧robably half the time, there were tears at ribbon cuttings where the business owner was so passionate and excited about what they were doing,69制片厂制作传媒 he said. 69制片厂制作传媒淎nd it was such a big moment in their life to be opening their business that they were actually in tears with the emotion of that day. It69制片厂制作传媒檚 really special to be a part of that event for somebody who, maybe, their entire life they wanted to open a business and have a business of their own. It69制片厂制作传媒檚 a privilege to see them doing that and announcing that to the world through a ribbon cutting and seeing their passion for it, their emotion and the tears. It was an honor.69制片厂制作传媒
Price praised all of the Chamber staff but said he was really impressed by the newest additions to the crew.
We have some newer people at the chamber, Natasha (Morrison) and Lauren (Seaver), and those two people, I mean, they have absolutely set the Chamber on fire.
69制片厂制作传媒淵ou got Natasha doing magical stuff with the downtown, with the sponsorships and the events. And when the (Parks Belk) fire happened, she was down there right in the thick of it trying to make sure that the downtown people were taken care of. And she continues to do that.
69制片厂制作传媒淭hen Lauren, good heavens, (she did great) with all the contact she has with the public and business owners, especially at the ribbon cuttings. There69制片厂制作传媒檚 one story I know of where a business was failing and the owner didn69制片厂制作传媒檛 know what to do and was pretty upset. Lauren helped that business owner find another location that would be better suited for the business, and helped the business person get that location and helped them move. And now that business is flourishing.
69制片厂制作传媒淎nd for her to take that on and to grab that business owner by the lapels and drag the through to success, I thought was wonderful69制片厂制作传媒
Price said he was going to have a little more time on his hand in this coming year to do things like pursuing his bicycling hobby, taking care of a new dog and visiting his family, perhaps taking a trip up to Maine where his older son lives.
While Price is never short on things to do in his role as the director of technical innovation at Iconex, Price is going to continue to volunteer his time and expertise in the community. Next up is a seat on an industrial development committee.
And he said all hands are needed on deck for the Morristown area because the economy is thriving and growth in the area shows no signs of slowing down.
69制片厂制作传媒淚f I had to kind of put it in my own words, we69制片厂制作传媒檙e going to have to ride the brakes going uphill if we69制片厂制作传媒檙e not careful,69制片厂制作传媒 he said. 69制片厂制作传媒淲e69制片厂制作传媒檝e got a lot of momentum. There69制片厂制作传媒檚 a lot of interest in this area in terms of businesses coming to join us.
69制片厂制作传媒淚 think we69制片厂制作传媒檙e going to be growing like crazy for a decade or more. I think we need to manage how we respond to the growth. And what I mean by that is I think we have to be careful about the companies we take on.69制片厂制作传媒
Price said he thinks the area can be strategic in the industrial and commercial recruitment it pursues so good jobs and positive long term impacts can result.
Developing a competent, skilled workforce in the Lakeway Area is going to be a priority for any economic plan, and Price said he is excited to see how the Chamber moves under the leadership of incoming Chairperson and Tennessee College of Applied Technology Susie Cox.
He passed along some lessons he thought were important.
69制片厂制作传媒淭he job69制片厂制作传媒檚 bigger than one person and you have to lean on the team around you,69制片厂制作传媒 he recalled telling her. 69制片厂制作传媒(We69制片厂制作传媒檙e ready to help) if you need to call me or you need to call one of the other past chairs if you don69制片厂制作传媒檛 have the bandwidth to cover everything.
69制片厂制作传媒淒on69制片厂制作传媒檛 be the hero. Reach out and get help and know that you69制片厂制作传媒檝e got a chamber staff and volunteer staff that is going to support you and know that there69制片厂制作传媒檚 no bad answers here. Get out in the community, talk to the business owners. Let them brag about their business and stand there and celebrate with them.69制片厂制作传媒
