A Sevier County woman was arrested Monday after a high-speed chase that reached speeds of 70-mph into Cocke and Sevier counties.
Cassandra Marie Thomas, 37, of Sevierville, was charged with three counts felony reckless endangerment with a vehicle, and one count each possession of Schedule II drugs and evading arrest.
She is also charged with three counts misdemeanor reckless driving, three counts of failure to maintain lane; two counts of speeding, and one misdemeanor count each possession of paraphernalia, failure to exercise due care, violation of registration law, no seatbelt, driving on a revoked license, speeding, and failure to provide proof of insurance.
According to a report by Cocke County Deputy Alex Reese, he saw a 2001 Subaru Outback, driven by Thomas, traveling on Wilton Springs Road where Thomas was not wearing a seatbelt. A records check found that the vehicle had expired tags.
Reese attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle at Janice69制片厂制作传媒檚 Diner, but Thomas passed a car on a double-yellow line.
The pursuit continued on Cosby Highway, with Thomas passing several cars on a double-yellow line and driving in the opposite lane of travel. Thomas69制片厂制作传媒 vehicle reached speeds of 70-mph in a 45-mph zone. The car continued passing vehicles and driving in a reckless manner before making a right turn onto Jones Cove Road which traveled into Sevier County while still driving in the opposite lane at a high speed.
Thomas then turned onto Bogard Road then onto Yellow Breeches Road and Stinnett Ridge Road. While on Stinnett Ridge, the car passed another vehicle on a narrow road, almost causing the other vehicle to go into a ditch. Thomas69制片厂制作传媒 vehicle made a turn onto Sunset Gap Road while reaching speeds of 70-mph in a 20-mph zone.
The car turned onto Bogard Road where it continued to drive recklessly.
Cocke County Lt. Miranda Williams attempted to block the roadway to make the vehicle stop. During this time, Thomas69制片厂制作传媒 vehicle attempted to go off the roadway to get around Williams at which point she used her cruiser to block the vehicle between her patrol vehicle and a barn on the right side of the roadway. Both vehicles sustained minor damages and the Tennessee Highway Patrol was requested to work the crash. Thomas, who was driving a vehicle with no insurance, was taken into custody, the report said.
A records check found that Thomas was driving on a revoked license due to a DUI conviction. A search of the car resulted in recovery of an unspecified amount of meth, along with several hypodermic needles in the front passenger seat. Thomas also had a violation of parole and three other active warrants in Sevier County.
