Fire department officials are urging residents take care and precautions to prevent residential fires during winter months as local incidents increase.
Another structure fire struck Morristown on Thursday when the house at 1006 Hillvale Drive in Morristown caught fire that caused an estimated $25,000 in damage, according to a preliminary report provided by the Morristown Fire Department.
Fire engines were dispatched to the home after homeowners called 911 after experiencing electricity interruptions and the discovery of smoke coming from the basement.
The fire department used around 4500 gallons of water to quickly suppress the fire and hotspots found in the house. The scene was cleared two hours after the fire department was alerted.
The residents were assisted with temporary housing by the American Red Cross.
Logistics Officer Danny Case said the MFD is grateful for the support and assistance from other first responders such as the Morristown Police Department, Morristown-Hamblen EMS and the Morristown Rescue Squad who show up in tandem for comprehensive emergency response.
The structure fire is the third in less than ten days69制片厂制作传媒 time in Hamblen County and fire professionals urge caution in winter months as increased use of electricity and heating devices increase the incidences of fires.
The National Fire Protection Association reports that the winter months of December, January and February hold increased danger from heating sources, candles, dried Christmas trees, generators and other sources.
MFD Deputy Fire Marshall Tim Carpenter shared a report from the Tennessee State Fire Marshal69制片厂制作传媒檚 Office that shows a 66% rise in home fire deaths during winter months.
