State Rep. Gary Hicks, R-Rogersville, has been appointed chairman of the House Finance, Ways and Means Committee for the 114th Tennessee General Assembly.
As chair, Hicks role will be to guide the passage of a balanced state budget.

The Finance, Ways and Means Committee is responsible for all measures relating to the general appropriations of state funds; the deposit of public monies; all measures relating to taxes and the raising of revenue, bonds and bonding revenue, the issuance, payment or retirement of bonds, the evidence of indebtedness; and assessment and collection of property taxes.

Hicks has represented House District 9 in the state legislature since 2015. He served three terms as chairman of the House Finance, Ways and Means Subcommittee, where he helped guide the passage of several multi-billion-dollar state budgets
Hicks was a Hawkins County Commissioner, Hawkins County Budget Chairman and Hawkins County Commission Chairman Pro Tempore before being appointed to serve in the State House.
He and his wife, Laura, live in Rogersville with their two children, Caroline and Maddie. He has worked for Rogersville City Schools as the Technology Director since 2010 and is a graduate of East Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee.

Southerland out as Energy, Agriculture and Natural Resources Chair
A shakeup in Nashville has led to State Sen. Steve Southerland not being renamed chair of the Senate69制片厂制作传媒檚 Energy, Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, according to multiple published reports.
Southerland, a Republican who represents Hamblen, Cocke, Greene and part of Sevier counties, is being replaced by Murfreesboro Republican Shane Reeves.
