There will be no school Monday Jan. 20 due to Martin Luther King Day.
A new construction site is brewing upstairs. When walking through the library doors, West High students and faculty members are welcomed by the new Books & Beans coffee shop that is open to the school starting this semester. This coffee shop was six years in the making as Ms. Brittany Long and Mrs. Wendy Szatkowski, who retired last year, came up with the idea themselves. Mr. Clark69制片厂制作传媒檚 CTE construction class built it, and students in work-based learning and nutrition staff will run the shop.
Nominations for boys to be on the Basketball 69制片厂制作传媒coming Court will be during TNN on January 22. 69制片厂制作传媒coming week will be Feb 10-14, and the Student Council has a lot of fun things planned for that week. We are excited to announce that we will finish the week with a Valentine 69制片厂制作传媒coming Dance on Saturday, February 15 from 7-10pm in the gym. Casual or semi-formal attire is welcome. All grade levels are welcome, and tickets will go on sale in February. Tickets will be $8 in advance on GoFan or $10 cash at the door. Students and guests must have a Hamblen County student ID to enter, so please speak with Mrs. Creech in the library to get an ID before then if you do not have one!
Attention seniors, Who69制片厂制作传媒檚 Who forms are available in the Counseling Office. These are due back to the Counseling Office by Jan 29.
Jan 30 is the senior FAFSA Frenzy at 6:00 p.m. Seniors make sure to apply to scholarships before their deadlines!
John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest- students in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate. All students must register online. Visit the website here to apply.

The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program- “A Constitutional Speech Contest” aims to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States on the part of high school students. Students in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate. Visit for full contest details. The Department of Tennessee awards $6,000 each year and the state winner competes for another $25,000 at the national level. Full details and the application can be found in the Counseling Office Google Classroom.

The General Federation of Women69制片厂制作传媒檚 Clubs (GFWC) Scholarship- is dedicated to community involvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. The Tennessee Federation awards scholarships of $1,000 to deserving students in Tennessee. Candidates must be planning to attend a Tennessee College or University. Applications are in the Counseling Office Google classroom.

Horatio Alger Association Scholarship- provide financial assistance to students throughout the nation who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity. Scholarship criteria also include high school graduation, demonstrate financial need, commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor69制片厂制作传媒檚 degree, and United States citizenship. Apply online here.

In sports news, Jan 23 Freshmen Basketball will play a home game against Jefferson County High School. Jan 24 junior varsity and varsity basketball will play an away game against Jefferson County High School.
