Four people were injured Monday in a wreck involving a police cruiser, an ambulance and two private vehicles at the intersection of State Route 92 and George Street near the JLG plant.
According to a preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, around 12:40 p.m., Monday, a 2024 Cadillac Lyriq, driven by 85-year-old Don Olive, was northbound on State Route 92 near the intersection of George Avenue.
A 2023 Ford Explorer, driven by Officer Benjamin Hammer, 42, of the Jefferson City Police Department and a 2020 Chevrolet ambulance, driven by Alexander Jones, of the Jefferson County EMS were en route to Jefferson Memorial Hospital for non-emergency traffic, which involved no lights or sirens. Both of these vehicles had stopped for a red light at the intersection of State Route 92 and George Avenue.
Meanwhile, a 2005 Pontiac Vibe, driven by Kyle Cutshaw, 40, was turning left from George Avenue onto Highway 92 Southbound SR 92 when Olive69制片厂制作传媒檚 vehicle struck Hammer in the rear. The impact caused Hammer to hit the ambulance in the rear and spin into the southbound travel lane. Hammer struck Cutshaw69制片厂制作传媒檚 vehicle as it was turning into the southbound lanes.
All drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Cutshaw was not injured.
Two passengers in the ambulance, EMS Technician Morgan Hertzog, 24, was rendering care to Sarah Kelly, 42. Both were unrestrained, but Kelly was uninjured.
The injured were taken to area hospitals for treatment.
Olive was initially charged with failure to exercise due care. The investigation is ongoing.
