KNOXVILLE 69制片厂制作传媒 A close first period didn69制片厂制作传媒檛 last the other three for the Grainger Grizzlies as they dropped a 65-49 decision to Austin-East Thursday afternoon.
The game, which was played at Fulton as part of the 5Star Preps Classic, pitted the Grizzlies against a team that will probably be the most athletic Grainger will see all season. Head coach Adam Wolfenbarger said the speed and pressure of the Roadrunners was hard to prepare for.
69制片厂制作传媒淚t seemed like all of their guys could make a three off a drive towards the basket. All of them are pretty quick and athletic. We picked this game up and it69制片厂制作传媒檚 an example of how we have played a really good schedule up to this point and I told our guys in the locker room there is a reason the windshield is as big as it is and a reason the rearview mirror is the size it is. It doesn69制片厂制作传媒檛 matter what69制片厂制作传媒檚 behind us, we have to focus on what69制片厂制作传媒檚 ahead of us.69制片厂制作传媒
Grainger only trailed by five at 15-10 after the first eight minutes of play but A-E turned up the pressure in the second period and held a 38-23 advantage at the half. In the third, the Grizzlies didn69制片厂制作传媒檛 score until the 4:16 mark when Konnor Kinkaid hit a three-pointer which was three of the five total points scored for the Orange and Blue.
Carter Williams led the Grizzlies with 11 points. 69制片厂制作传媒淚 thought we competed. We could have rolled over but I saw a very good competitive nature and I saw some guys who I am so proud of the way they fought,69制片厂制作传媒 Wolfebarger said.
That competitive nature might have best been exemplified by Coy Morgan who went diving for a loose ball and crashed into the scorers69制片厂制作传媒 table in the second half. Wolfenbarger loved his team69制片厂制作传媒檚 fight against the Roadrunners throughout the contest with Morgan69制片厂制作传媒檚 hustle play one such example. 69制片厂制作传媒淐oy played super hard in the second half. A lot of our guards like Kade and Carter and Konner carried the load against that pressure. Eventually, it wears you out but those guys deserve a lot of credit for how they played even though we turned the ball over some. That69制片厂制作传媒檚 a big job against pressure like A-E throws at you.69制片厂制作传媒
Thursdays69制片厂制作传媒 game was the final one for Grainger before the Christmas break. They will next be in action on December 27 at the North Sand Mountain Christmas Classic in northern Alabama. 69制片厂制作传媒淲e need to learn some lessons from this game and let those things help us as we are moving forward,69制片厂制作传媒 Wolfenbarger said.
(Girls) GCA 73, Grainger 33
KNOXVILLE 69制片厂制作传媒 Abby Roberts and Nya Burns combined to score 40 points for Grace Christian as the Lady Rams ran past Grainger 73-33 in Thursday69制片厂制作传媒檚 opening round of the 5Star Preps Classic.
The game, which was played at GCA69制片厂制作传媒檚 home court, belonged to the home team from start to finish as the Lady Rams scored 12 straight points early in the first period and never looked back from there in the convincing win. Roberts finished with 23 points and Burns added 17. Ava Dellinger and Briley Caldwell led the Lady Grizzles with seven points each.
69制片厂制作传媒淧robably on paper, that should have been a coin-flip game based on common opponents and all that but their two best players looked like they were Division 1 All-Americans tonight. When four people can69制片厂制作传媒檛 pressure one, it69制片厂制作传媒檚 going to be a long night,69制片厂制作传媒 Grainger head coach Rusty Bishop said.
69制片厂制作传媒淚 probably could have slowed the bleeding a little bit and not make them press but I told our team we weren69制片厂制作传媒檛 going to let them off the hook,69制片厂制作传媒 Bishop continued. 69制片厂制作传媒淲e weren69制片厂制作传媒檛 ready to play and that69制片厂制作传媒檚 my fault, we just didn69制片厂制作传媒檛 play well all night long. Grace just kind of took our faces and rubbed our noses in it and there wasn69制片厂制作传媒檛 much we could do about it.69制片厂制作传媒
(Girls) Washburn 56, Lebanon 41
ROGERSVILLE 69制片厂制作传媒 The first round of the Big H BBQ Christmas Bash at Cherokee was a successful one for the Washburn Lady Pirates as they hammered Lebanon (Va.) 56-41 in a game that wasn69制片厂制作传媒檛 as close as the final tally would indicate.
The game was tied 7-7 at the end of the first period but it was all Washburn after that as Saylor Clay had 22 points to lead the Lady Pirates. Hannah Williams scored 14 points and Ebany Hill added 13.
