As an Eagle alum and former assistant, Cooper had been chasing the feat for the majority of the 21st century.

69制片厂制作传媒淚 mean, there are just a lot of words that I can69制片厂制作传媒檛 even use to describe it,69制片厂制作传媒� Cooper said. 69制片厂制作传媒淚69制片厂制作传媒檓 so proud for our community and our kids and our coaching staff. And it felt like a huge weight had been lifted off our shoulders. To be the first to do it is obviously very special.69制片厂制作传媒�

Every coach takes the job looking to change the culture and the standard of his program. Few actually succeed.

Cooper succeeded, and for that, he has been named the 2024 69制片厂制作传媒播 Coach of the Year, which he believes to be a team award.

69制片厂制作传媒淭he Coach of the Year Award goes to the entire coaching staff,69制片厂制作传媒� Cooper said. 69制片厂制作传媒淎nd I think I69制片厂制作传媒檝e got a really good coaching staff to develop really good relationships with the players. And I think the guys for the most part, want to be in the building every day and around their coaches. I think I69制片厂制作传媒檝e got one of the better staffs around, and they do a great job of motivating those guys and build relationships with them to where they can hold them accountable and get them in the building every day and get them working.69制片厂制作传媒�

The Eagles opened with a 37-7 win over Cumberland Gap before falling to Cherokee (N.C.) in Week 2.

Cosby went on to win its next five games to set up a matchup with region power Cloudland, who had won 35 straight region games. During that stretch, the Eagles won three region games where they outscored their opponents 157-6.

When it was time for the real test against Cloudland, Cosby delivered with a 27-26 win where Cooper saw several players make key plays. Region 1-A MVP and Lakeway Area Athlete of the Year Devonte Wigfall produced three touchdowns, David Baker picked up a two-point conversion stop late and Haiden McMahan sealed the win with an interception.

But we continued to improve early on in the season, and getting those first couple region wins kind of lined it up for us. I told them if we continue to work and get better throughout the year, we69制片厂制作传媒檝e got an opportunity to go up there to Cloudland with a shot at it, and the kids bought into that.

69制片厂制作传媒淲eek after week went by, and the confidence they got in winning allowed them to believe they could go up there and win that football game. And they did.69制片厂制作传媒�

In addition to Wigfall69制片厂制作传媒檚 honors, Cooper saw sophomore quarterback Matthew McMahan win Offensive Player of the Year, Brett Corn win Defensive Lineman of the Year, Oliver Zeunik win Linebacker of the Year and Baker win Co-Athlete of the Year. The Eagles also saw eight more players earn All-Region nods.

And a lot of people that are not familiar with it don69制片厂制作传媒檛 have an understanding of the kind of commitment work it takes to play at that level and at that high of level. Just to see those guys get recognized and rewarded for their efforts, that69制片厂制作传媒檚 special.69制片厂制作传媒�

Cooper knew what he had in guys like Wigfall, Baker and Chase Joyce, but he saw a substantial rise in production from his younger core of players, which is a potential indicator of prolonged success in the program.

69制片厂制作传媒淚 was excited that they bought in,69制片厂制作传媒� Cooper said. 69制片厂制作传媒淭hey worked really, really hard in the offseason, the old guys and the young guys came together. They enjoyed being around each other. There were a lot of days grinding and putting in work. I69制片厂制作传媒檓 just really, really proud of what they were able to do over the course of the year.69制片厂制作传媒�

Cooper and the Eagles will look to continue breaking barriers at Cosby. The next step is to win the program69制片厂制作传媒檚 first playoff game, which they fell just short of in 2024 in a 27-18 loss to Rockwood.

He is confident that the work put in this season will be a foundational piece for Cosby football69制片厂制作传媒檚 ascent.

69制片厂制作传媒淚 think the work ethic that is instilled in the kids and they69制片厂制作传媒檝e gotten used to the culture of the program,69制片厂制作传媒� Cooper said. 69制片厂制作传媒淲e took our mandatory two weeks off, and we69制片厂制作传媒檙e back in the weight room now five days a week, so we got guys up there working hard. They know now that we69制片厂制作传媒檝e flipped the script and became the defending champion of the region. We69制片厂制作传媒檙e going to get everybody69制片厂制作传媒檚 best shot every week, and we69制片厂制作传媒檝e got to be better than we were last year if we want to try to defend it and be able to host another playoff game.

69制片厂制作传媒淚 think a lot of the guys have absolutely fallen in love with the process and understand what it takes to be successful. Right now, we69制片厂制作传媒檙e just enjoying the grind and getting after in the weight room and trying to get ready and be stronger than we were last year and give this thing another run.69制片厂制作传媒�
