His motor never stops, 115 miles an hour every time the ball snaps. When you have over 136 tackles in 10 games, that69制片厂制作传媒檚 pretty impressive. And then you have 16 sacks, which ties the sack record here for a single season. That69制片厂制作传媒檚 just pretty impressive what a kid was able to accomplish. He played the majority defensively, and man, he was just a phenomenal player.69制片厂制作传媒�

Holt, like Player of the Year Skylar Thomas bided his time and waited his turn behind some special talents over the years, becoming the third straight Jefferson County linebacker to win the award.

Holt played a fair amount of snaps a season ago, but he still sat behind a group of four senior linebackers that totaled over 300 tackles.

He learned everything he could from those guys, who he looked to as role models. Specifically, he looked to 2023 Defensive Player of the Year Emmitt Newman and 2022 DPOY Dallas Williamson.

He even took Newman69制片厂制作传媒檚 number 15 with hopes that he could fill his shoes.

69制片厂制作传媒淚 feel like those boys taught me so much. Emmitt Newman, he was a role model to me,69制片厂制作传媒� Holt said. 69制片厂制作传媒淗e was more like an older brother since he taught me mostly everything I know, and he gave me the motivation to do it. That69制片厂制作传媒檚 why I took his number this year. And Dallas Williamson, he was a great guy, one of the best guys I69制片厂制作传媒檝e ever known. I69制片厂制作传媒檓 still really good friends with him. Those two boys were just so, so good to me, and they helped me along my course, so much.69制片厂制作传媒�

Holt filled those shoes and a bit more, eclipsing Newman69制片厂制作传媒檚 marks in tackles and sacks. With those guys leaving the program, Holt knew that he would have to step up and become a difference-maker on the defensive side of the ball.

69制片厂制作传媒淚 always love having the opportunity to rise the occasion,69制片厂制作传媒� Holt said. 69制片厂制作传媒淚 feel like I was really hyped coming into the season. I was hyped before every game. I was just itching at the at the leg to get out there and tackle someone, because that69制片厂制作传媒檚 what I love to do. I love the feeling of being on the field and getting a good sack or tackle and the crowd going crazy.69制片厂制作传媒�

Not only did he help replace the production on the field, but he filled it off the field as a leader.

69制片厂制作传媒淗e was a big leader on our ball club,69制片厂制作传媒� RIley said. 69制片厂制作传媒淗e69制片厂制作传媒檚 not a very vocal guy, but Waylon is a leader by example. And he just went to work every day. And if he didn69制片厂制作传媒檛 see somebody working as hard as they thought they should be, he69制片厂制作传媒檇 walk over to him and say, 69制片厂制作传媒楬ey, man, we got to be better than that.69制片厂制作传媒� It was fun to watch him grow in that aspect of his football playing career, and just seeing him dominate on Friday nights and doing things that we thought he could do and was able to be an undersized linebacker, is very impressive.69制片厂制作传媒�

What made Holt such a special player was his motor according to both him and Riley.

Riley said he didn69制片厂制作传媒檛 always make the right play every time he touched the field, but he made up for those plays with his motor and his effort in each play. Holt said that there is no room for being tired or worried when he takes the field.

69制片厂制作传媒淚 feel like when you69制片厂制作传媒檙e on the football field, you can69制片厂制作传媒檛 think about how tired you are,69制片厂制作传媒� Holt said. 69制片厂制作传媒淵ou can69制片厂制作传媒檛 think about what worries you have about the play before, what you did wrong that play. You just have to focus on the one play you69制片厂制作传媒檙e doing and give it your absolute best. That69制片厂制作传媒檚 the mindset I brought to the field, and I feel like that69制片厂制作传媒檚 what helped me get all the stats.69制片厂制作传媒�

As a result, Holt tallied double-digit tackles in all but two games. In his two games without a sack, he tallied two TFLs in each.

Holt, like the rest of the team, went on a tear in the final six games of the season, picking up 13 of his 16 sacks and 20 TFLs in those games.

69制片厂制作传媒淲e took the field with a purpose, and I feel like that started catching on about halfway through the season, and that69制片厂制作传媒檚 what really made our defense click,69制片厂制作传媒� Holt said.

Holt is another example of the 69制片厂制作传媒渢eam before me69制片厂制作传媒� culture that Riley has built. Holt bought his time and contributed to the team over the years. Once it was his turn, he ran with it and thrived.

Many others are sure to follow Holt as he did Newman and Williamson. There69制片厂制作传媒檚 a new standard at Jefferson County.

69制片厂制作传媒�(The program) has taught me how to be resilient and how to persist, and how to be a good man in general,69制片厂制作传媒� Holt said. The Jeff County program doesn69制片厂制作传媒檛 settle. They give a lot of culture speeches, and I feel like they motivated me to be a better man and a better person.

69制片厂制作传媒淭hey69制片厂制作传媒檝e focused on not getting down on yourself for doing a bad play and standing together as a team. They focus on how we need to work as a team and work as a unit, instead of just individual success. Coach Riley always says individual success comes after team success, and I feel like we really use that mindset on the field, and it helped us a lot this year.69制片厂制作传媒�
