Public speaking are two words that can strike fear in the hearts of students and adults everywhere. While it is intimidating, most would agree that it is one of life69制片厂制作传媒檚 most important skills. The benefits of communicating effectively range from developing critical thinking skills to fine-tuning verbal and nonverbal skills.
4-H is a way to prepare youth to speak well and confidently.
One hundred and fifty-one 4-H youth members from across Hamblen County recently came together to put their public speaking skills to the test during the Hamblen County 4-H Public Speaking Contest held on Tuesday, Jan. 28. Representatives from elementary and middle schools were present in addition to students at All Saints Episcopal School and homeschool youth.
Contestants in fourth and fifth grade wrote speeches telling who they felt was the most influential woman in American History. Their choices ranged from George Washington69制片厂制作传媒檚 mother to Dolly Parton. Contestants in sixth through ninth grade selected topics that were favorite things like their favorite sports player and their favorite summer 4-H camp.
Winners were selected in each grade level and will compete in a sub-regional contest against eight other area counties.
Fourth Grade: First place 69制片厂制作传媒 Andrew Speck from Russellville Intermediate; Second place 69制片厂制作传媒 Hampton Davis from Union Heights Elementary; Third place 69制片厂制作传媒 Jax Algood from Whitesburg Elementary.
Fifth Grade: First place 69制片厂制作传媒 Larissa Pivaral from West Elementary; Second place 69制片厂制作传媒 Santiago Labarco from West Elementary; Third place 69制片厂制作传媒 Elise Cooley from Manley Elementary.
Sixth Grade: First place --- Caroline Connin from West View Middle School; Second place 69制片厂制作传媒 Peighton Robinson from Lincoln Heights Middle School; Third Place 69制片厂制作传媒 Ethan Shultz from All Saints Episcopal School.
Seventh Grade: First place 69制片厂制作传媒 Whitlee Collins from East Ridge Middle School; Second place 69制片厂制作传媒 Finley Antrican from East Ridge Middle School; Third place 69制片厂制作传媒 Charlee Barnard from All Saints Episcopal School.
