The Hamblen County Board of Education passed a preliminary measure governing use of school facilities between the board and the City of Morristown by outside organizations at Tuesday69制片厂制作传媒檚 meeting.
There are two parts to this agreement, according to Superintendent of Schools Arnold Bunch.
69制片厂制作传媒淭he first part that you are approving is the overarching agreement between the city (of Morristown) and the school district on how we will share facilities,69制片厂制作传媒 Bunch said. 69制片厂制作传媒淔or the district, any third party that wants to use our facilities that the city brings in, they69制片厂制作传媒檒l follow our process and we will control it. For any city facility that anyone wants to use, that will go through the city unless it is called out in one of the addendums at the back where who schedules and who controls are outlined differently.69制片厂制作传媒
Bunch said that as an example, there will be an addendum for King, Long-Reel and Sherwood parks, as well as Union Heights and the basketball facilities that are used by the city, the city will issue addendums for each facility involved.
The Board will approve the overarching agreement, Bunch said. The specific addendums that tie into that, will be worked out by Bunch and Morristown City Administrator Andrew Ellard.
69制片厂制作传媒淭he goal is that the City Administrator and I will be able to sign it. This doesn69制片厂制作传媒檛 mean that we69制片厂制作传媒檒l not keep you informed with what we69制片厂制作传媒檙e trying to do. The addendum we have put in includes Sherwood Park. The Athletic Director at East High would control the scheduling of that field from August through May. Any non-school entities that wish to use those facilities will follow our facility use agreement and will work through that AD to get access to those fields with whatever fees are associated with the field.69制片厂制作传媒
Bunch said that the board has worked on the fields that the district will be predominantly dealing with in trying to get the overarching agreement.
The agreement allows high school sports teams to schedule the city facilities for certain times of the year and have priority in certain times of the year.
The agreement passed on a 7-0 vote with Chairperson Carolyn Clawson, Vice Chairperson Johnny Denton and Board Members Clyde Kinder, Jerrod Weems, Darlene Smith, Robert Workman and Bradley Harville voting in favor.
The Tennessee Department of Education awarded the district a $75,000 grant for Fiscal Year 2025, to be focused on Meadowview Middle School.
The funding is broken down by $6,670.32 for an instructional facilitator, three after-school tutoring teachers at a total of $13,659.68 and priority school improvement in 0PLC at Work at a cost of $54,670.

Bunch announced the first Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) graduation was held last week at John Hay Elementary with another to be held at Lincoln Heights Elementary and Manley Elementary.
69制片厂制作传媒淚t was a great event where we celebrated those students going through the DARE program,69制片厂制作传媒 Bunch said. 69制片厂制作传媒淚t69制片厂制作传媒檚 a program where they can get smarter about what is going on in their community and to better prepare them to be able to make decisions as they move forward. I69制片厂制作传媒檓 very pleased to partner with the Sheriff69制片厂制作传媒檚 Office on this. I thought it was a great event.
69制片厂制作传媒淚t69制片厂制作传媒檚 a great thing that we69制片厂制作传媒檙e trying to educate the students about the dangers of drugs and everything else that may be out there,69制片厂制作传媒 Bunch said.
The Miller Boyd Alternative School annex is moving forward with concrete being poured and roofing going up, Bunch said. It69制片厂制作传媒檚 hoped that the addition will be ready for the elementary grades and the cafeteria as quickly as possible.
Bunch said that the Lincoln Heights Elementary build is progressing.
69制片厂制作传媒淲e have a meeting (this week) to get a status to see how soon the building will be ready, whether the school will be ready to move into over the Holiday Break or do we need to delay that,69制片厂制作传媒 Bunch said. 69制片厂制作传媒淲e69制片厂制作传媒檙e working schedules and deliveries with the principal and the team of maintenance and everybody involved. That is still progressing well. If we69制片厂制作传媒檙e aren69制片厂制作传媒檛 able to be in there after the holiday break, we69制片厂制作传媒檒l be in there shortly thereafter.69制片厂制作传媒
Pallets of equipment from classrooms are already packed in the current school69制片厂制作传媒檚 hallways for transfer to the new school.
The Tennessee Department of Transportation construction of a turn lane to the school was awarded late, but the contractor has done 69制片厂制作传媒済reat work,69制片厂制作传媒 according to Bunch.
69制片厂制作传媒淭hey have already got it painted off and lined. That is not going to be a hold-up to opening up school. We are pleased with how that is progressing right now,69制片厂制作传媒 he said.
CTE classroom renovations have been approved for use at West High. Classes will gather their things next week with work to begin after Christmas.
Bunch also talked about the district69制片厂制作传媒檚 69制片厂制作传媒淭ech Refresh69制片厂制作传媒 plan in which so many computers are replaced per year so that classrooms will have new computers every four years.
69制片厂制作传媒淲e are in year three of the refresh,69制片厂制作传媒 Bunch said. 69制片厂制作传媒淲hat the board is approving is the third year69制片厂制作传媒檚 buy. The last ones we will buy will be for first grade, second grade and any leftover kindergarten, as well as staff. That was an intentional decision we had made because first and second grade testing does not count in the TCAP scores.69制片厂制作传媒
Bunch said that the district has bought 200 computers each in the last two years. This year, because of the bulk buy and what the district has been able to save, the district will be able to buy 300 computers.
The CTE Dog Grooming facility at Morristown East will be ready to go by next semester. There are several 69制片厂制作传媒減unch list69制片厂制作传媒 items remaining before the facility is released to the school.
