Trashy software is helping the City of Morristown.
Morristown Public Works Director Paul Brown spoke at a work session on Tuesday night after the Morristown City Council meeting to talk about current and future software the department uses to track work and improve efficiency.
69制片厂制作传媒淚69制片厂制作传媒檇 like to introduce you to Routeware, our software program that we use听for trash collection, bulk, and brush,69制片厂制作传媒 Brown said in a video presentation he brought to the session.听69制片厂制作传媒淭he driver comes in every morning and picks up a tablet,听and this tablet has their route that they69制片厂制作传媒檒l be driving for that day听and all the trash stops that they need to make.69制片厂制作传媒
Drivers use the tablet to records different things at citizens69制片厂制作传媒 addresses.
Brown said the data helps the department be more efficient and provides records for citizens so if they call Public Works and 69制片厂制作传媒渁sk why your trash was not picked up,听or your bulk waste, or your brush was not picked up,听then the person answering the phone can look up and see why it was not picked up,听because when the drivers don69制片厂制作传媒檛 pick it up, they69制片厂制作传媒檒l hit a button,听and they69制片厂制作传媒檒l explain why it wasn69制片厂制作传媒檛.69制片厂制作传媒
The software can bring up pictures of the day69制片厂制作传媒檚 trash locations and can tell if a can is not placed correctly or some other reason for not picking up trash.
Public Works also uses the software to communicate between the office and the drivers. Assignments and other information can be relayed to the tablets and integrated into the day69制片厂制作传媒檚 route if something needs to be adjusted.
The software in the truck also helps track the day69制片厂制作传媒檚 pre and post work inspections required by federal law. Drivers can use an integrated checklist and recording feature to keep vehicle maintenance organized and timely. If a problem is observed the truck is immediately sent to the city garage for corrective action.
This automatic routine contributes to safer trucks that benefit employees and the public.
Another piece of software Brown highlighted is a program called ReCollect that is going to change how bulk pickup is handled.
Right now trucks scour the city to look for bulk trash. ReCollect will provide a way to pick up bulk trash in a more organized fashion.
69制片厂制作传媒淲e69制片厂制作传媒檙e going to switch up听the way we do bulk and brush,69制片厂制作传媒 Brown said.听69制片厂制作传媒淲e69制片厂制作传媒檙e going to go from driving all the streets听looking for it. (Now we69制片厂制作传媒檙e) going with scheduled听bulk and brush pickup听so that when you put something out,听then you notify us that it69制片厂制作传媒檚 out. You will have a list of things to choose from听so that we know we69制片厂制作传媒檙e going to go through and pick up.听If it69制片厂制作传媒檚 furniture, we69制片厂制作传媒檒l have truckers听picking up furniture and stuff听and things of that nature.听So you will actually schedule a pickup,听and then we will go;听instead of driving all the streets looking for it, it will be targeted.69制片厂制作传媒
Brown said the software will require the city to educate citizens on the new method, but the benefits of not wasting time by searching for bulk waste, better bulk trash management and the gas savings make the move worthwhile.
The software will be implemented in the near future 69制片厂制作传媒 Brown said they69制片厂制作传媒檙e waiting for ReCollect and Google to sort out some problems with the Android version of the app.
The last piece of software Brown told the Council about is a route design software called EasyRoute.
69制片厂制作传媒淲e, by hand, have built all the routes,69制片厂制作传媒 he said.听69制片厂制作传媒淭he routes were built back when we started听taking up garbage.听And then, as subdivisions were built,听we added to routes. What EasyRoute is going to let us do听is drive the routes most efficiently.听Instead of driving all over the place听with the way we69制片厂制作传媒檝e configured it听and grown over the years,听we69制片厂制作传媒檒l redo that听to get the most efficient routes.69制片厂制作传媒
After the presentation, Brown answered City Council questions.
Prior to the workshop, the City Council approved a few different measures.
First, they approved spending some funds in the East Tennessee Progress Center for lot development.
Lots 10 and 11 are going to see some improvements and if the City covers 30% of the cost the state will cover the remainder.
The Council approved the purchase of one Heil Python Automated side loader garbage truck for the price of $507,485.55.
Brown said with area growth and the need for backup coverage in case of mechanical failures in current trucks has necessitated the purchase of the truck. He said it will take well over a year to be delivered after the order.
The current fleet of auto loader trucks are relatively new, but it will soon be time to begin major scheduled maintenance on the mechanical arms which need an overhaul around every 5 or 6 years to maintain performance.
Morristown Police Chief Roger Overholt brought a disciplinary issue before the Council for approval. He characterized the issue as a violation of the employee handbook that was resulting in a suspension for a few days.
