A man was arrested after being found with almost $13,000 in cash and cache of drugs inside his pickup truck Friday, the second time in the last five years that he was charged.
According to information obtained from the Newport Police Department, Jeffery Lee Philpot, 58, was charged with five counts of manufacture/delivery/sale/possession of Schedule II drugs, two counts of manufacture/delivery/sale/possession of Schedule V drugs, two counts of possession of Schedule V drugs, one count possession of paraphernalia and one count possession of a Schedule III controlled substance.
At 2:22 p.m., Friday, Newport Police received a tip that Philpot was at the Farm Bureau Insurance Company. He left the insurance company and opened the driver side of his 2010 Dodge Ram Q15 pickup truck where police arrested him.
A search of Philpot resulted in recovery of several jars of narcotics. Among the narcotics recovered were 209 20-milligram Oxycodone pills; 54 15-mg Oxycodone pills and 22 Oxycodone 10-mg pills to which Philpot did not have prescriptions to.
Also found in Philpot69制片厂制作传媒檚 possession were a digital scale and a total of $12,940 in cash: 128 100-dollar bills, four 20-dollar bills, 5 10-dollar bills and 10 one-dollar bills.
After the truck was towed, an inventory of the truck yielded several bottles of Gabapentin pills, including 218 300-mg pills, 267 800-mg pills and 902 400-mg pills. Philpot did not have a prescription for the 400-mg Gabapentin pills, but the bottles contained a mixture of various other dosage Gabapentin pills in which Philpot didn69制片厂制作传媒檛 have a prescription.
There were also 289 Suboxone strips in various packs and mixed packaging not consistent with pharmacy distribution, located inside Ziploc baggies with a prescription label affixed to the bag.
A bag containing 1-gram of Cocaine was also located inside the truck. When questioned, Philpot didn69制片厂制作传媒檛 have a reason for carrying the amount of cash he had, nor does he have a source of income other than a $900 monthly disability check. Philpot said that the white substance found in the truck was Cocaine and that he had an issue with narcotics.
Philpot had previously been charged in 2019 after more than $55,000 was found in his home, along with more than 800 Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Oxymorphone and Morphine. Two road signs and ammunition were also found during that search. Philpot was out on parole with the Tennessee Department of Corrections for felony drug activity according to the CCSO. Philpot consented to a search of his residence by Deputy Sgt. Chris Barnes and narcotics officer Lt. David Robertson, according to a 2019 report in the 69制片厂制作传媒播.
