Happy Fall Break, East High! This week has proven to be an exciting and busy time for everyone as we prepare for some well-deserved time off. So grab a blanket, a snack, and curl up on your couch while we talk about all of the fun events, amazing people, and memorable moments that have happened at our school!
Let69制片厂制作传媒檚 start by addressing the elephant in the room that burst through the door and wreaked havoc. The hurricane this past weekend took a lot from many, but it can never take away our hope, sense of community, and empathy. It69制片厂制作传媒檚 been beautiful to see people come together in support of these impacted areas, and I can only hope that our community doesn69制片厂制作传媒檛 lose that momentum. There69制片厂制作传媒檚 still much to be done, but through fundraisers, volunteer efforts, and donations, our community is actively keeping hope and love alive.
After recognizing the call for assistance, East High students in the FFA club swiftly sprang into action. Morristown East69制片厂制作传媒檚 FFA club is collecting donations to support agricultural communities affected by Hurricane Helene69制片厂制作传媒檚 flooding. The donations needed include posts (any kind), insulation, barbed/smooth wire, gates, gate handles, tools (such as pliers and hammers), hay, temporary housing for livestock, livestock trailers, and containers for food and water. If you would like to help, you can drop off supplies at the East High STEM parking lot or contact Mrs. Overbay at 423-754-4511 or Mr. Johnson at 423-851-4303.
East High School has also been actively collecting water, cleaning supplies, and nonperishable food items for our Greene and Cocke County neighbors. Although donations are not accepted in the main office lobby during fall break, please explore other donation avenues to continue your support. There69制片厂制作传媒檚 a lot of work to still be done. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated, whether it was a single bottle of water or multiple containers; your generosity will make a huge difference for those in need.
Outside of East High School, there are several places within the community that are taking donations. One suggestion is God69制片厂制作传媒檚 Warehouse located on 3441 W. Andrew Johnson Highway. Please call (423-312-8863) to schedule a delivery. To make monetary contributions, you can send donations to the Nolachucky Baptist Association Disaster Relief at PO Box 325, Morristown, TN 37814. You can find specific information about each on the HCBOE official Facebook page.
Switching topics from the flooding but staying on the subject of fundraising, East High Art students are selling gorgeous handmade birdhouses to raise money for supplies and scholarships. Speak to a student in Mrs. Rouse69制片厂制作传媒檚 art class to learn more about purchasing a birdhouse. Large ones are $20 a piece, and small ones are $15 a piece.
Halloween candy donations are still needed for the trunk or treat hosted in the East High parking lot on October 26th from 6-8 p.m.! Remember, students will collect candy in their storm classes until the 25th; please remember to gather candy during the fall break and submit your donations before the deadline.
This next celebration was in last week69制片厂制作传媒檚 article, but these hardworking staff members cannot be celebrated enough. Custodian appreciation day was on October 3rd! Thank you so much to our custodians for all that you do to keep East High School up and running.
First, the 2nd East High Chess tournament was held on Tuesday, October 1st, and was open to both East and West High students as well as staff and families who wanted to participate. Tanner Mawk won, followed by Kingston Crockett and Mr. Faxon tied for second place, and Gabriel Mckinney and Eric Baskette tied for 3rd place.
Shoutout to HaiLea Elliott for being named the Air Force JROTC cadet of the month for September!
Now for the main events: 69制片厂制作传媒coming and the Hurricane Games!
The week leading up to the homecoming and powderpuff games was a huge success, with a great amount of student participation.
The most participated in day was Wacky Wednesday and/or culture day. East High Students, if you have any dress up day ideas/suggestions, please contact a student council member or teacher sponsor. The student council is always looking to add new ideas to our list of dress up day options.
Congratulations to Reagan Dalton, Morristown East69制片厂制作传媒檚 2024 homecoming queen! Reagan is kind, generous, and a beautiful soul. If you get a chance to congratulate her, make sure to do so. This queen deserves to bask in her royalty as long as possible.
The day after the homecoming game, East held the first annual 69制片厂制作传媒淗urricane games!69制片厂制作传媒69制片厂制作传媒攁 mixture between the tradition of powderpuff football and an amalgamation of smaller minigames.
However, you69制片厂制作传媒檒l have to wait until next week to find out if the Hurricane Games were a hit or a miss, what surprises unfolded, and, most importantly, whether the seniors won powderpuff!
The seniors have the opportunity this year to finally prove once and for all that they don69制片厂制作传媒檛 win because it69制片厂制作传媒檚 rigged, they win because being a senior gives you superpowers.
Go seniors!!!
The challenge I will leave with you this week is to try and give one person a random act of kindness. Whether it69制片厂制作传媒檚 a simple gesture like doing a chore without being asked or a larger commitment like volunteering to assist with flood relief efforts, aim to brighten someone69制片厂制作传媒檚 day with acts of kindness of any size.
Have a wonderful fall break, stay safe, and return ready to make the next 9 weeks count. Let69制片厂制作传媒檚 make every day a great day to be a hurricane!
